On August 8th 2008, the world will pause for 2 weeks.  All that divides us will be pushed aside, conflicts between countries will take a back seat, and Nations will unite to cheer their team on to gold in the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing, China.  I personally feel the Olympic games mean much more than world class athletes and gold medals, I feel it is a time for ones patriotism for their country to be exploited.  For me the Olymipc Games are more than just ”games”, they are an opportunity to pull together and, in unison, cheer for the USA.

Yesterday I was brainstorming what I should write about on nofrilly.  I came up with the idea that the death of email might be near because of all of the social networking sites like facebook and because of services like twitter where you can update your follows with a quick little message.

During the summer one of the most important things is food. Whethr your grilling out or camping out great recipes are always helpful.

Campfire/Grill Mac and Cheese,

Ingredients needed: 1 small alluminum pie pan, 1/2 cup cooked elbow noodles, 1/4 cup shredded cheese, 1 tablespoon milk, 1/2  tablespoon butter, 16 inch piece of alluminum foil

First take all of the ingredients and put into the pie pan, then cover with alluminum foil. You may want to double wrap it. Fold the extra foil over the top to make a loop or handle. Then place directly on the grill if you are going that way or put the stick through and place over a open flame. After about 7 minutes remove the package and unwrap. Wait 2 minutes to cool down then enjoy.

Ingredients needed: small alluminum pie pan, 1/2 cup tortilla chips, 1/2 cheddar cheese, Salsa or other toppings of your choice, 16 inch piece of alluminum foil

First mix all of the ingredients and wrap in foil making a handle with the extra foil on top. Place the stick or handle through the handle if cooking on open flame or place on the grill. Let cook about 10 minutes.

For years stores have asked paper or plastic, now you may never hear that phrase again. San Franciso is the first city in America to take action like other countries already have by banning plastic bags that cause white pollution. Countries such as China, South Africa, and Ireland have already placed this ban in effect. Instead of using plastic bags companies have started using PLA (carbon neutral) plastics that are made from renewable sources and do not emit greenhouse gases. Although this product is biodegradable it takes an extremly long time to break down. “If they are disposed in a controlled composting environment they can take 3 months to decompose. In a regular land fill they can take anywhere from 100 to 1000 years(Elizabeth Royte).”
Another problem that arises with PLA is because it is plant based, it needs to go to a composting center rather than the recycling center. Which means that it needs to be seperated from regular recycles. Until you know for sure that your PLA product is going to a industrial recycling plant, it will not be better than your average old plastic product. Instead of using plastic try using reusuable bags, backpacks or reusable containers.

Whether you love them or hate them you’ll still want to see the Yankee’s at their original stadium, the Yankee Stadium. The Yankee Stadium was one of the first baseball stadiums to be built, in the United States in the early 20th century. After the 2008 baseball season is finished, the Yankees will build a new stadium next to the old one. The new stadium will contain more suites, more retail space, and the ticket price is sure to increase. This new project is roughly estimated to cost $1 billion. The city hopes that the feel of the old stadium will carry over with great legends to have played there such as Casey Stengel, Joe DiMaggio, and of course the famous Babe Ruth. Along with the team holding the record of most World Series wins with a total of 26.  Although the new stadium will contain a Hard Rock Cafe, the city hopes to maintain the feel of the true Bronx. The new stadium is being built with hopes to bring economic stimilus to the community.  Good bye Yankee Stadium, hello ecomony.

If you played the Max Payne games then you too should be very excited for this movie. Or, if you just like action films you should be excited. I played through the entire first Max Payne game and loved it and now I’m excited to see its going to be a movie!
